I pushed for a trip to Alaska, but Paul declared an aversion to cold weather so we booked a trip to Russia. I don't have any explanation for that! We liked Grand Circle when we traveled with them a few years ago so that was our company of choice.
Although our flights from (DC) Dulles through Frankfurt to Moscow were uneventful (ok, bad turbulence over Greenland), we did have to walk miles in Frankfurt to the connecting flight. Moscow is eight hours ahead of US EST so jet lag really set in. Eventually, we boarded the M/S Rossia in Moscow about 3:30 PM local time.
Upon arrival the traditional hospitality greeting gift of salt and bread mixture was offered as we boarded the ship. If I look awake, I'm not.
The Rossia has 120 cabins, all about the size of a postage stamp, and no balconies. However, we scaled back and were used to it in no time. It has a crew ratio of about 2:1, two bars, a dining room for all aboard, a library with wi fi (worked sporadically), and a fully stocked gift store.
