Day 7 - Yaroslavl

Thursday, May 9, 2013

Yaroslavl is one of the oldest cities along the Volga and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its architectural styles between Western Europe and the Russian Empire.  The day we visited was THE big day for the Russian May Day/Veterans Day celebration.  The parade and activities were so well attended we had to turn back.

Along the way, we've been notified we can't get into Kizhi Island, known for its wooden architectural structures built with no nails.  This is because the area's waters are still frozen.  Big disappointment for us as it's a highlight of the trip.
